When the temperature rises, a properly functioning car air conditioning system is more than a comfort feature. It helps keep the cabin cool, reduces humidity and can make long drives much more comfortable. However, an air conditioner that is not operating correctly may place additional load on the system and affect overall vehicle efficiency. At Star Automotive and Tyres, we can assist with car air conditioning regas, repairs, servicing and inspections in Moonah and surrounding areas. Our aim is to provide a convenient, one-stop automotive workshop for your vehicle's maintenance and repair needs. https://youtu.be/n0AnO84tHZ0 How Does Your Car Air Conditioning System Lose Performance? Modern vehicle air conditioning systems contain several components that need to work together, including the compressor, condenser, evaporator, refrigerant circuit, seals and electrical controls. Like other vehicle systems, these components can wear or develop faults over time.

Refrigerant should not normally disappear from a healthy, sealed system. If the refrigerant level is low, it can indicate a leak or another issue that needs to be identified. Worn rubber seals, hoses, connections or other components can allow refrigerant to escape, reducing cooling performance and potentially causing the system to work harder or operate for longer.

Simply topping up refrigerant may provide temporary relief if there is an underlying leak, which is why an inspection can be an important part of an air conditioning service. Why Check Your Car's Air Conditioning Regularly? A yearly air conditioning inspection can help identify developing problems before they become more expensive repairs. Your technician can assess the system's cooling performance and check for signs of leaks, worn components and other faults.

A well-maintained air conditioning system can also operate more efficiently, while keeping the cabin comfortable during Australia's warmer months. Regular servicing may help extend the working life of components such as the compressor and prevent a minor issue from developing into a major failure.

It's also worth remembering that air conditioning places an additional load on the engine in many petrol and diesel vehicles, so an efficiently operating system can help avoid unnecessary energy use. The actual effect on fuel consumption varies between vehicles and driving conditions. Don't Ignore Changes in Cooling Performance If your air conditioning is no longer getting as cold as it once did, takes longer to cool the cabin or produces unusual noises or smells, don't automatically assume it just needs a regas. These symptoms can have several causes, including low refrigerant, restricted airflow, electrical faults or worn components.

Having the system professionally inspected can help determine whether it requires a regas, repair, component replacement or further diagnosis.

At Star Automotive and Tyres, our team can arrange vehicle air conditioning servicing, regassing, repairs and inspections to help keep your system working reliably. Stay Comfortable on the Road A little preventative attention can go a long way when it comes to your vehicle's air conditioning. Regular inspections can help maintain cooling performance, identify refrigerant leaks and reduce the risk of unexpected air conditioning problems when you need the system most.

If your car's air conditioning isn't keeping you cool, contact Star Automotive and Tyres in Moonah to arrange an inspection or air conditioning service.

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Star Automotive and Tyres in Moonah, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Star Automotive and Tyres, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Star Automotive and Tyres for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
